The largest morphological penetration of the limestone bridge is given by Runcu Gorge. They are spectacular due to their length of over 1,000 m, and their height (in some places over 450 m).

Runcul Gorge is in the middle of Runcu Valley, in the central part of the carbonate strip. The slopes are facing the massive ridge of Bedeleu.

Runcu Gorge has a diversity of morphology, by displaying vertical walls and due to the meanders of the valley. The spectacular landscape can be noticed since the beginning due to the white façade of the limestone walls.

The gorge has few caves, the most famous being Runcu Cave (378.5 m long and 63 m difference of levels).

Runcu Gorge is considered a “masterpiece” of the valley, because its waters gather from the effluents Belioara, Tisa and Jgheburoasa.

Runcu Gorge occupies an area of 20 hectares, on the territory of the locality of Ocolis, county of Alba. It is a complex natural reserve where the picturesque landscape combines with ridges, towers and cliffs.

The gorge is in the Eastern part of Muntele Mare mountain, along Ocolis River.
